There are two major supermarket chains on St. Croix – Pueblo and Plaza Extra. The latter is far superior; in fact, Pueblo is not recommended at all. There is a Plaza Extra in Sion Farm Shopping Center (about four miles from Judith’s Fancy). They have a good butcher case in the back, left corner of the store. Nearby is Cost U Less where you can buy food and liquor at lower prices, but frequently larger quantities must be purchased. It is like a BJ’s, Sam’s Club or Costco but no membership is required. They have excellent meats at reasonable prices. There is another (larger and newer) Plaza Extra near Frederiksted on Centerline Road. There is a Big K-Mart store about a mile or two beyond and across the street at Sunshine Mall. In Sunny Isle Shopping Center there is a large selection of stores including a second K Mart, drug stores, clothing stores, shoe stores, Radio Shack, etc. with just about anything you might need. Sunny Isle is about 3 miles from Judith’s Fancy via Route 79.
Naturally, St. Croix has wonderful opportunities for duty-free purchase of jewelry, liquor, tobacco, giftware, art and local crafts. There are many shops, principally in Christiansted but in Frederiksted and about the island too.

It’s a convenient place to pick up odds and ends, but not the place to go if you plan to do major shopping. Leaving Judith’s Fancy, take a left toward Christiansted and Food Town is about a mile and a half on your right. Princesse Seafoods is before Food Town and sells quality local fish and other cold water fresh fish and shellfish flown in daily from Boston. The proprietress, Romy, will help you in your choice. The best place to buy produce is from the ladies who sell locally grown items on the roadsides. The local tomatoes, in season in wintertime, are fabulous.
